The short version

Who we are

This site, sidekickdev.ca, is run by Sidekick (“we”, “us”). We're based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and we build websites, run Google Ads and make custom software for small businesses.

If you have any question about your personal information, email hello@sidekickdev.ca. Our privacy contact can be reached at the same address.

What we collect

When you book a call, our form asks for:

When you text or email us, we receive your phone number or email address and whatever you send.

When you visit the site, the Google tag (see below) collects standard technical information: the pages you view, your browser and device type, your approximate location, and whether you arrived from a Google ad. It also records clicks on “Book a free call” and “Text us”. It does not see what you write in a text message.

We don't ask for payment details, government ID or other sensitive information on this site.

Why we collect it

We only use your information for these purposes. If we ever want to use it for something new, we'll ask first.

How your enquiry reaches us

When you send the booking form, your details go to a small notification service we run. It sends us a text message and an email with your enquiry, so we can reply quickly. The service also uses providers for web hosting, text messages and email.

Joey: name the providers here (for example the web host, the SMS provider and the email service) and say if any of them store data outside Canada (usually the United States). PIPA expects you to say so.

These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.

Cookies, Google Ads and analytics

We use the Google tag for Google Ads conversion tracking. It sets cookies so Google can tell us when someone who clicked one of our ads goes on to book a call or tap “Text us”. We see totals, such as “3 bookings from ads this week”, and not who you are. If we turn on Google Analytics, it uses the same tag and the same kind of anonymous, combined reporting.

We don't currently use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel or run remarketing ads that follow you around the web. If that changes, we'll update this page first.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can control ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. The site still works without cookies.

We don't sell your information

We never sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only share it with the service providers above, and only so they can do their job for us, or when the law requires it.

Email and text messages

We'll reply to your enquiry by the method you chose. We won't add you to a newsletter or send marketing messages without your consent, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Just tell us to stop and we will.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for 2 years after our last contact, then delete them. If you become a client, we keep project and billing records for as long as tax law requires (generally six years in Canada).

How we protect it

We use reasonable safeguards: accounts protected with strong passwords and two-factor sign-in where available, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access limited to the people who need it.

Your rights

Under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent (for example, ask us to delete your enquiry). Email hello@sidekickdev.ca. We'll reply within 30 days.

If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
